Hurricane Protection and Evacuation Specialist
Praetorian is building a bench of operators trained for pre-storm planning, secure evacuation, stand-behind residential coverage, and post-storm overwatch across Florida.
Praetorian Executive Protection LLC is hiring hurricane protection and evacuation specialists for Florida clients. Roles include pre-season planning, secure evacuation movements, stand-behind residential coverage during a named storm, and post-storm overwatch while insurance and recovery crews are on property. Military, first-responder, or emergency management backgrounds are strongly preferred.
Florida is a hurricane market. Every HNW principal who lives, works, or travels along the coast needs a written storm plan and an operator ready to execute it.
The work runs in cycles: March through May we build and rehearse plans, June through November we activate them when a named storm enters the cone, and December through February we conduct lessons-learned and harden for the next season. Praetorian needs operators who are calm, prepared, and physically capable of operating in storm conditions when others are evacuating.
Pre-Season Planning
Residence and route planning March through May. Wind-rated room identification, generator and fuel verification, evacuation destination pre-clearing, and principal rehearsal.
Secure Evacuation
When evacuation is the call, execute the movement. Pre-staged vehicles and supplies, coordinated fuel plan, advance at the destination, and protective movement along the way.
Stand-Behind Coverage
When a principal rides out the storm in a hardened residence, operators stage on-site before landfall with pre-positioned food, water, medical, and redundant comms.
Post-Storm Overwatch
The first 72 hours after a storm is the highest-risk window. Residential overwatch, contractor screening, insurance coordination, and property inventory control.
What the Work Actually Looks Like
A hurricane engagement does not start when the cone appears. It starts at a pre-season planning meeting in March where you walk the residence, map evacuation routes, confirm fuel capacity, and rehearse with the principal and their staff.
When a storm approaches, you are activated 72 to 96 hours before landfall. You stage supplies, confirm evacuation destinations, and move the principal if that is the plan.
If the principal stays, you stay with them. You monitor the property through the storm, maintain comms with land-line backup, and execute contingency extraction only if conditions deteriorate beyond plan.
After the storm, you hold the property for 72 to 120 hours while power, water, and law enforcement return to normal. Looting is the primary threat in that window.
Who We Hire for Hurricane Roles
Military veterans with field-operations experience, first responders (LE, fire, paramedic), prior emergency management, and operators with hurricane-specific experience from prior seasons. Physical capability matters — this is work in heat, humidity, debris, and limited creature comforts.
Calm temperament matters more. Operators who catastrophize under pressure do not fit.
We want the ones who treat a Cat 4 like a scheduled operation with a different set of variables.
Florida's Hurricane Market
Every coastal Florida market has hurricane exposure — Brevard, South Florida, Tampa Bay, the Panhandle. HNW principals with multi-property portfolios often have engagements running across multiple properties in a single storm.
Praetorian coordinates across properties, manages the operator bench, and ensures coverage without gaps. The busy season is June 1 through November 30.
The planning season is the rest of the year.
- Military, first-responder, or emergency management background (preferred)
- Prior hurricane-season field experience
- Physical capability for sustained work in storm and post-storm conditions
- Calm temperament under extended-duration stress
- Strong coordination skills for working with property staff, contractors, and LE
- Willingness to deploy within 24 to 48 hours when a storm enters the cone
- Florida Class D or Class G license
- Pre-season planning work March through May with set schedules
- Storm-activation deployments with premium storm-duty compensation
- Post-storm overwatch assignments through recovery
- W-2 employment with a Florida Class B Security Agency (License B3600136)
- Workers' compensation and general liability coverage during assigned duties
- Pre-positioned supplies (food, water, medical, redundant comms) for stand-behind coverage
- Coordination with land-based protection teams across multiple properties
- Pathway to senior storm-response leadership roles for operators who deliver through multiple seasons
Questions About This Role
Is hurricane work seasonal only?
No. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, but pre-season planning runs March through May, and post-storm recovery work can extend through the following spring. Operators who perform well through one season become the core of the next year's planning team.
Do operators evacuate with the principal or stay behind?
Both paths exist, depending on the principal's plan. Some operators handle evacuation movements to the destination and conduct advance work there. Others stage at a hardened residence and ride out the storm on-site. Assignments are matched to operator experience and comfort level.
What about operator safety during the storm itself?
Stand-behind coverage is only authorized at residences that meet wind-rating and generator criteria. Operators have pre-positioned supplies, redundant communications, and a contingency extraction plan if conditions deteriorate beyond plan. Agency policy is that no operator rides out a Cat 4 or higher in a non-hardened structure.
How is post-storm work different from normal residential security?
Power is often out for days. Law enforcement is stretched thin. Contractors and insurance adjusters are arriving on short notice without vetting. The operator's job is to screen every entry, document the property inventory, prevent opportunistic theft, and coordinate with utility crews. It is less about confrontation and more about disciplined access control.
Does Praetorian train operators on hurricane protocols?
Yes. Pre-season, the agency runs tabletop exercises and on-site walk-throughs for every assigned operator. New operators to this role pair with a veteran for their first storm activation.
